Counterfactuals Explained
CueCrux doesn’t hide credible disagreement it shows it. That’s how you avoid one‑sided answers.
What Is a Counterfactual?
Evidence that contradicts a claim from another credible source (e.g., official update vs older guidance). In Audit mode, counterfactuals are always checked.
How It Affects Trust
- Shown in the UI as a banner or pill with links.
- Trust subscores reflect disagreement until reconciled.
- Answers remain usable when context is clear; otherwise, request Audit.
How To Proceed
- Read both sides; check timestamps and licence.
- Prefer primary sources and the most recent authoritative updates.
- If the decision is important, re‑run in Audit.
- Save the answer with notes for future reference.
Examples
- New policy in 2025 contradicts a 2023 blog. Action: cite the 2025 policy; keep the blog as historical context.
- Two official datasets disagree due to methodology. Action: note the method; pick the one aligned with your use.
